God for us
16 December 2010
I'm sure that there are times when people close to us stand by us or turn their backs on us. It's also hard to forgive them if they don't help us, I'm sure of that to. I'm also sure that I've just said the word 'Sure' way too many times, but I'm absolutely certain that if God is for me, Who can be against me? (A reference to Romans 8 v 31)
The Bible talks loads about God's love for us, but when hard times come it can be hard to keep the knowledge that God loves us and cares for us in our minds. Psalm 139 v 5 says; "You go before me and after me. You place your hand of blessing on my head". Psalm 139 is a good psalm to read if you're feeling worried or unsure of yourself. Verses 7 - 12 say;
"Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you."
This passage is talking about the fact that God will stay with us no matter what... We can be in the deepest trouble, the darkest times of our lives and God will be there with us. Believe it or not, God has no plans to harm us... as Jeremiah 29 v 11 says; "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans fof good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
I suggest today that you read through the whole of Psalm 139 and reflect on the importance of it to you.
