Standing out
4 December 2010
After the word that Matt Ford and Pastor Jim brought last night, I was inspired to stand out more for Jesus in my work place. God challenged me on a few things, and I really felt him speaking to me. I know that this same message will also challenge you to stand out more in your school, college or University also. Wherever it is that God has placed you as a Christian witness.
He asked me:
Who's reputation are you trying to build? Yours or mine?
When I first started my new job, I was concerned about being liked and I wanted to make a good impression with the way I look etc. Although these are good things, I felt as though I wasn't fully showing my faith as part of who I am.
For example, during my lunch break I would say Grace really discreetly so no one would notice. Why did I feel that I had to hide it? If anything, that would be an awesome symbol to let people know that I am a Christian and am not ashamed. That's just one example, I also thought to myself, instead of reading all the gossip magazines and newspapers they have there (which are fine), why don't I openly read my Bible on my break?
That would certainly open more doors for conversation, just like today's news paper would!
I felt God say:
Why are you trying to blend in? I didn't DIE for you to BLEND IN. I didn't save you so you could blend in with everyone else. The price I paid for you on the cross, was not so you could still be like everyone else, but so you could shine with the strength and passion that I showed this world. Your are precious, you are special.
Be challenged this week, like me, to actually 'stand out', be different, and let that open doors for you to share more about who you are, and who Jesus is.
