Why Worry?
5 October 2010
What do you worry about? Clothes, family, friends...? In a world full of worries, some small, some big, it’s easy for us to lose track of the bigger picture. Parents are always saying "don't worry it will be ok", friends say "don't sweat it". Teachers say "don't stress yourself over this, pace yourself." And even the bible says "don't worry.". Matthew 6 v 25 says ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?’ The material things if this world are not as important as those of the spiritual world. God will make sure that we have the things we need although we may not always know what it is. He'll always look after us. If we truly know this, then we don't need to worry. Another verse in the bible says; ‘Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.’ Isaiah 41 v 10. Notice the phrases ‘Don’t be’, ‘I am’ and ‘I will’ in Isaiah 41 v 10? and the phrase 'do not worry' in Matthew 6 v 25? Surely these indicate that God is always close, carrying the burden of our worries so that we don’t have to and that God will give us the strength to get through those worrying and trying times. Phillipians 4 v 6 says "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything;" The alternative to worry is PRAYER. Give your worries to God in prayer. He will give you guidance, strength and comfort. So why are you worrying? If you find yourself worrying, about anything, pray and seek God. God will listen and God will look after you and give you the strength you need.
