Giving, Giving, Giving...

13 September 2011

While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people putting their gifts into the collection box. Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two pennies. "I assure you," he said, "this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has." Luke 21 v 1 – 4

In our world today people value a lot of different things – being rich, having the latest gadgets, having the fashionable clothes, being popular… but what about being generous? I know, I know… it’s not always easy to be generous ‘cause we all like to hang on to the things we have, but when we are generous God can bless us in ways we would never imagine.

We don’t always realize just how generous God has been to us. He’s given us many things – food, freedom, the sun, family, friends and the life of His only Son.  If God is generous, then shouldn’t we also try to be generous? God commands us to be generous and God’s commands show us that he values generosity. Do you value generosity?

 Deuteronomy 15 v 11 says;

“There will always be some among you who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share your resources freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need.”
